I understand how traumatic life experiences can get in the way of a person's ability to be the happy and healthy person he or she wants to be. Although one cannot change his/her life experiences, I believe that everyone has the capacity to heal from a hurtful past. I use a client centered approach, creating a safe and secure therapeutic relationship where understanding and healing can occur.
As a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), I earned my Masters Degree in Guidance and Counseling from the University of Colorado at Boulder. I studied at the Gestalt Institute of The Rockies, becoming a certified Gestalt Therapist. I am also an EMDR therapist who specializes in treating survivors of domestic violence and other traumatic life experiences. Most recently, I've been trained in EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) which is another powerful and effective treatment for trauma.
Before becoming a psychotherapist, I worked in Jefferson County Schools as a teacher and school counselor. After completing my career in the schools, l worked for Project PAVE, a local non-profit whose mission is to intervene in the cycle of relationship violence. It was during the 10 years that I was employed by Project PAVE that I developed my expertise in treating children and families impacted by domestic violence or other types of relationship trauma.
I have been in private practice since 2013.
